Menzies Aviation handles first cargo flights at Western Sydney International Airport

Menzies Aviation, the world’s leading aviation services partner, has successfully handled the first cargo flights at Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) on the official opening day, marking a significant milestone in the airport’s opening and Australia’s aviation sector.

Menzies Aviation welcomed the airport’s inaugural cargo flights on 27 July 2026, operated by Texel Air and Team Global Express. The aircraft arrived from Adelaide and Brisbane respectively before departing on schedule.

Menzies Aviation is the first to secure all required regulatory approvals and accreditations to operate international cargo services at WSI. This enabled Western Sydney International Airport to obtain its First Point of Arrival accreditation, allowing international flight operations to commence from today.

The milestone also marks the start of operations at Menzies Aviation’s new 12,500sqm cargo facility located within WSI’s dedicated cargo precinct. The warehouse is the largest cargo facility in the company’s Oceania and Southeast Asia network and has the capacity to handle up to 200,000 tonnes of cargo annually.

Menzies Aviation’s WSI facility has been designed to support a broad range of cargo, including pharmaceuticals, perishables, e-commerce shipments and heavy freight. It features direct airside access, dedicated freighter infrastructure and advanced cargo handling technology designed to support efficient cargo flows and future growth.

Menzies Aviation customers will benefit from:

• MACH, Menzies’ next-generation cargo management platform, will provide customers with enhanced visibility, efficiency and real-time shipment tracking.
• MILE, Menzies’ fully integrated e-commerce cargo solution with end-to-end digital tracking, priority handling and faster customs clearance will support rising e-commerce demand.
• A digital Truck Visit Management solution by Nallian will be deployed, which reduces truck turnaround times, enhances safety and unlocks efficiency as trucks are not waiting to dock and load cargo.
• A new trucking service will also operate between WSI and Menzies Aviation’s other Sydney warehouses to speed up transit.

As Sydney’s first 24-hour airport, WSI is expected to play a key role in expanding Australia’s air cargo capacity and strengthening connections to international markets.

With a 15-year lease, Menzies Aviation will support airlines, freight forwarders and exporters with greater flexibility, operational efficiency and faster access to global trade routes. Alongside air cargo, it will also provide ground handling services at WSI to passenger aircraft when flights commence later this year. 

The opening of the cargo warehouse expands Menzies’ presence across Australia, where the company provides cargo and ground handling services at 15 airports nationwide.
