Located 18 kilometres (11 miles) west of downtown New Orleans, Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport is the primary commercial airport for the New Orleans metropolitan area and southeast Louisiana. The airport was renamed in 2001 to honour the native-born musician’s 100th birthday. At 1.4 metres above sea level, it is the second lowest-lying international airport in the world.
