Lima’s main airport, Jorge Chávez International Airport, is located approximately 11 km (7 miles) northwest of Lima’s city centre in the district of Callao. The airport is named after Jorge Chávez, a pioneering Peruvian aviator who became the first person to fly over the Alps in 1910. His daring spirit is commemorated at the airport, which has become a symbol of Peruvian aviation.
