Menzies Aviation rolls out next generation BRS technology

04/06/26

Menzies Aviation, the leading service partner to the world’s airports and airlines, is rolling out a next-generation Baggage Reconciliation System (BRS) across its European network in partnership with easyJet.

Developed with aviation technology specialist, ABOMIS, the system replaces paper-based processes with a digital, real-time view of what has been checked in, sorted and loaded. It provides end-to-end visibility from check-in through to departure, combining real-time tracking with enhanced barcode scanning and data insights to help teams identify missing baggage earlier and make faster decisions on the ramp.

Ramp teams have relied on manual, paper-based processes to manage baggage during loading. The new system provides a real-time view of each flight, showing how baggage is progressing through the operation and where action is needed to ensure baggage make it onto the aircraft.

The solution has already demonstrated benefits. At Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) in Italy, Menzies has reduced short-shipped baggage – bags left behind before departure – by 70%, improving on-time performance and reliability for airline customers and passengers. With earlier visibility of missing bags, teams can intervene sooner to avoid last-minute disruption at the aircraft.

Designed to integrate into existing operations, the system runs on Menzies-issued mobile devices, removing the need for specialist hardware, and enabling rapid deployment without complex integration with airport systems.

Following a successful launch at Milan Malpensa (MXP), the system is now live across a growing network of airports including Málaga-Costa del Sol (AGP), Palma de Mallorca (PMI), Barcelona-El Prat (BCN), Alicante (ALC), Ibiza (IBZ), Seville (SVQ), Tenerife South (TFS), Gran Canaria (LPA) Almería (LEI), Murcia (RMU) and Nice (NCE). Further expansion is underway as part of a phased rollout across Menzies Aviation’s wider European network.

ABOMIS is accelerating the rollout of BRS, going live in three airports in just one week. Within a month, the system is expected to be operational in more than 10 Menzies locations across Spain.

Looking ahead, Menzies is exploring how the system can extend across the full baggage journey, including arrival tracking and passenger updates, supporting a more connected and transparent travel experience.

Miguel Gomez Sjunnesson, Executive Vice President Europe, Menzies Aviation, said: “Our partnership with ABOMIS is focused on using data and digital tools to solve real operational challenges. The system gives our teams a live view of each bag as it moves through the airport, so they can identify issues earlier, make faster decisions and keep the turnaround on track. That control makes a direct difference to performance and reliability for our airline customers and, ultimately, their passengers with fewer missing bags where we are deploying this technology.”

Ali Timajchi, CEO of ABOMIS, said: “This rollout with Menzies Aviation marks the beginning of a strong partnership focused on practical innovation. Working with their highly experienced and forward-thinking operational teams across a large-scale network gives us a unique opportunity to develop new features based on real airport challenges. We are proud of this partnership and look forward to expanding the solution further, including future enhancements that support faster and more reliable baggage data exchange across the operation.”

The rollout forms part of a wider programme of work between Menzies Aviation and ABOMIS, focused on developing tools that respond directly to operational challenges. This approach is already supporting a pipeline of innovation projects aimed at improving efficiency, visibility and performance across the network.
