Global airports gear up for Easter surge
27/03/24With Easter just around the corner, global travel hubs are preparing for a surge in passenger traffic. Miami International Airport has already welcomed 12.3 million passengers this year and expects a significant increase over the Easter weekend. Similarly, Malaga Airport in Spain anticipates over 785,000 passengers during the holiday period.
Projections for 2024 surpass pre-COVID figures, with International Air Transport Association (IATA) estimating passenger volumes will reach 103% of 2019 levels.
I’ve spoken before about the potential operational challenges this welcomed growth brings. An increase in passenger numbers puts a significant strain on existing airport infrastructure, creating operational challenges and risking the operational flow between airports, airlines, and ground services.
For the outlook of the industry, it signifies the promising recovery that lies ahead and the substantial opportunity for sustained growth.
At Menzies Aviation, we’re prepared for the global resurgence and embrace the opportunity to demonstrate our industry-leading ground services capabilities during busy periods like Easter.
As passenger numbers increase during this holiday period, proactive measures will be essential for airlines, airports, and ground handling staff to deliver exceptional service.
We extend our gratitude to our Menzies colleagues working over the Easter weekend and wish everyone a happy Easter.
