Experts gather for Americas Conferences in Safety and De-icing
More than 40 Menzies Aviation colleagues attended the second Americas De-icing Conference, held on July 31 and August 1 in Newark. Attendees included De-icing Trainers, Coordinators and Managers from all 14 Menzies De-ice locations, the Americas Regional Office and the head office in Edinburgh.
The Americas-based conference was held in addition to the earlier European counterpart, due to the expanded business in the region brought along by the ASIG acquisition.
Attendees discussed challenges from the previous season and were given a tour of Newark Airport’s training and GSE facility, along with current training and demonstrations of fluid handling and testing. Vendors such as Global and LAS gave presentations of new technologies.
Terence Trainor, SVP Risk – Americas, said: “The De-icing Conference was a great gathering of the de-icing minds of the Americas, helping to further standardise and work through the challenges presented by the multitude of different airline programs and training required in the US, Canada and Mexico.”
The successful De-icing Conference follows on the heels of the Americas Safety Summit, which took place in Fort Worth, Texas at the end of June. This was the largest Safety Summit ever held in the region, spanning three days with almost 100 attendees and presenters.
Special topics included general safety updates, investigations, compliance, fuel quality, soft skills, and training. Attendees also toured the Dallas Cowboys American football stadium and ate dinner at a stadium restaurant. Special guests included SVP Group Health, Safety and Environment Bob Newman, a United Airlines Safety representative and EVP Americas John Redmond, who delivered a closing speech.
