Menzies pedal to charity success with Mark Beaumont

Menzies and Mark Beaumont

On 22 September, 80 cyclists teamed up with adventurer and cyclist Mark Beaumont to cycle from coast to coast across Scotland. Three Menzies employees formed a team to join Mark for the gruelling 245 mile journey, completing more than 120 miles each through some of Scotland’s most beautiful and challenging landscapes.

Phil Lloyd (General Manager Operational Excellence Programmes), Neil Earnshaw (General Manager Central Support) and Owen Harkins (Group Company Secretariat Assistant) were part of the cycling team, with Paul Edgar (Treasury) as their support driver. Together, the 80 cyclists pedalled the equivalent mileage of Mark Beaumont’s 2017 “Around the World in 80 Days” cycling feat, and the Menzies team themselves covered Mark’s average daily distance from that epic cycle.

Menzies Aviation raised more than £5,000 for the STV Children’s Appeal, with a total of £80,000 raised by the entire event. The STV Children’s Appeal raises funds to support children and young people affected by poverty in Scotland, and provides practical help such as food and warm clothes, training and employment opportunities, and social and emotional support. The event featured on Scottish television on 1 October.

Phil Lloyd said: “It was an honour for Menzies to support Mark last year during his record breaking success cycling around the world in fewer than 80 days, and now we’re back alongside him working hard to raise funds for an excellent cause closer to home. It was a tough cycling challenge, and one which raised awareness and much-needed funds for children in Scotland. Thanks to everyone who contributed.”
