Lee Gainsbury and Jonathan Atherton join EMEA Fuels senior team

EMEA Fuels has recently welcomed two new Vice Presidents into the senior team: Lee Gainsbury and Jonathan Atherton.

As VP and Key Account Manager – IAG, Lee Gainsbury will manage the operational relationship between EMEA Fuels and International Airlines Group (IAG) at airports where we provide direct and indirect into-plane
fuelling and fuel storage services to IAG companies, which include British Airways, Aer Lingus and Iberia. Lee will also support commercial and business development with IAG.

Lee has over 20 years of experience within the airline handling industry, with 15 at senior management level. He worked extensively throughout Europe with Sabena (now Brussels Airlines), Virgin Express and the BMI group. Lee is well known and respected within the airline community and brings with him a wealth of knowledge and skills. Lee said: “I am thrilled to become part of the EMEA Fuels team and look forward to helping move our business forward in these exciting times.”

Jonathan Atherton joins the team as VP Fuels – Technical Services, leading the technical team in providing support and guidance to fuelling locations in EMEA and beyond, including best practice of procurement and maintenance of fuelling vehicles and facilities.

Jonathan joins us from the Royal Air Force, where he saw active service in Iraq and Afghanistan providing airport defence and security for Basra and Kandahar International Airports. He has been in aviation logistics since 2011 and most recently was the manager of Royal Air Force Brize Norton’s Fuel Installation in the UK, one of the largest military fuel installations in Europe.

Jonathan said: “I’m excited to join the business at a time of such rapid growth. This is a great opportunity to expand our operations to as-yet unchartered territory for Menzies and I’m honoured to be part of it.”
Sheena Robertson, SVP Fuels, said: “The appointments of Lee and Jonathan significantly enhance our senior management team, providing us with a stronger structure to manage our existing business and support our growth into EMEA locations. Please join me in welcoming both to the team.”
