Good news for Menzies at Heathrow Airport!

e-Bulletin from John Henderson - VP Ground Handling UK & Ireland

I'm delighted to announce that Menzies UK has scored not one but two victories in the same week in LHR.

Menzies Aviation have tried unsuccessfully over the last two years to secure a ground handling licence in the closed market of Terminal 4, but it's only taken our new General Manager Fraser Burns 4 weeks in the job to achieve. Well done Fraser!

As a result, the LHR team in charge of the project were delighted to deliver a flawless startup to our launch customer Air India on the 1st June. Special thanks to Richard Wootton (Operations Support Manager) and Steve Smith (Service Delivery Manager) who have worked tirelessly to make it a success.

Our entry into the market place in Terminal 4 marks an important stepping stone to building our business in line with the company vision of station density and regional density. We will look to expand our T4 business in the coming months after what at times seemed unsurmountable red tape and a group of incumbent handling agents that have tried every means possible to deny entry.

If that wasn't enough, in the same week the LHR team has landed one of the greatest prizes of all in ground handling, gaining a contract to handle BA in Terminal 1. As a result of the purchase of BMI by IAG, the BMI fleet will go through a process over the next 6 months of conversion to the BA AOC, but it was no "done deal" that Menzies as handling agent for BMI would automatically pick up BA aircraft. Menzies handled their first BA aircraft on the 28th May.
Andy Boyd SVP UK and Ireland said "it's a testament to our Ramp Operations Manger Gordon Whitelaw and the talent of the LHR ramp team that have consistently delivered great service to BMI since commencement of handling in October 2010 that BA have had the confidence to award us their business in T1."

LHR is already our largest business unit worldwide. With Fraser and a great team in LHR, the sky is the limit!
